Content Industry Outlook 2007: Reality Checks
By JOHN BLOSSOM, Shore Communications

This is a great report by one of our favorite analysts. In Outlook 2007, Shore focuses on seven key "A"s for the new year: Answers, Audience, Aggregation, APIs, Alternatives, Acceleration and Asia.

Here are a couple of highlights that apply to the work that iCopyright is doing for content owners and consumers:

1. Recommendations for Content Vendors:

(.....Rethink content licensing aggressively. The single most crying need for the publishing industry in 2007 is to rethink how it approaches the licensing and relicensing of copyrighted content....)

(....Be prepared to adjust to self-marketing content from companies and individuals. If you’re a magazine publisher, think less about “the book” and more about where your editorial, creative and technology resources can be useful in the marketing contexts that your clients desire – regardless of the venue...)

2. Recommendations for Institutions:

(....Look at managing costs through relicensing services.

With increased pressure on enterprises from corporate compliance officers and publishers to “do the right thing” with copyrighted materials, content relicensing services are gaining additional attention these days. But the opportunities to use relicensed content for outbound sales and marketing communications as well as for internal virtual teams are changing relicensing from a “gotta comply” necessity to a key method for making the most of professionally produced content. These “just-in-time” licensing opportunities will become more critical as cross-functional teams that cut across departments and companies begin to demand more efficient licensing schemes for premium content in collaborative online environments...)

These are precisely the kinds of problems and opportunities that iCopyright exists to address. Whether you are a content publisher or institutional consumer of content, we can assist you to put these recommendations into practice!
