Joomla Setting Detail

There are two iCopyright Joomla settings pages – plugin settings and component settings.  First, let’s look at the plugin settings.  Navigate to Extensions > Plugin Manager, and click on Content – iCopyright Article Tools.

This brings you to the plugin settings page.

Deployment of Tools. Choose whether you want the toolbar and copyright notice to appear on your posts Automatically or Manually*. The default is Automatic.

(*If you choose to use manual mode, the settings elsewhere in the Parameters box will not affect anything.  Instead, you would need to insert BBcodes in any article you would like iCopyright-enabled. The BBcodes that apply are:

[icopyright horizontal toolbar] will make the toolbar appear horizontally;
[icopyright vertical toolbar] will make the toolbar appear vertically; and
[interactive copyright notice] will make the interactive copyright notice appear.)

Categories Enabled.

To have every article display the iCopyright Article Tools, select "All." If instead you would like only certain Categories to display the iCopyright Article Tools, click "Selected" and choose the Categories you wish enabled from the list.

To suppress the iCopyright Article Tools from appearing on a specific article, go to the screen where you edit that article, and click "Parameters (Advanced)," and set "Offer iCopyright Tools" to "No."

Use these features to ensure that the iCopyright Article Tools only appear on content you want to license and have the right to license.

Article Tools Format.  Choose whether you want the article tools to appear as a horizontal toolbar or vertical toolbar – whichever looks best with the design of your site.  The default is horizontal.

Article Tools Alignment. Choose whether you want the toolbar to appear on the left or right of each article.  The default is left alignment.

Article Display Option. For your web pages displaying only a single article, choose whether you want to display both the toolbar at the top and the interactive copyright notice at the bottom, or one or the other.  We strongly recommend the default setting, which is to show both.

Frontpage Display Option. Many Home pages display multiple articles.  If the articles are lengthy, you should probably leave the default setting, which displays both the toolbar at the top and the interactive copyright notice at the bottom of each article.  If your home page has several short articles in a series, or a bunch of teasers, it may appear cluttered and you may prefer to display only the toolbar or the interactive copyright notice or neither.

After making any changes you wish, remember to click Save.

Now navigate to the Component settings page at Components > iCopyright Article Tools.

EZ Excerpt. Most content piracy occurs via copy/paste.  EZ Excerpt encourages copy/pasters to respect your copyrighted content.   When EZ Excerpt is activated, any reader who tries to copy/paste a portion of your article will be presented with a box asking “Obtain a License?". If the reader selects “yes” he or she will be offered the opportunity to license the excerpt for purposes of posting on the reader’s own website.  The default setting for this feature is to enable EZ Excerpt (EZ Excerpt will only be activated on articles for which you display the iCopyright Article tools toolbar).

Syndication. The Syndication service enables other websites to subscribe to a feed of your content and pay you based on the number of times your articles are viewed on their sites at a CPM rate you specify.  When you receive your Welcome email, click to go into Conductor and set the business terms you would like (Publishers > Services > Republish > Get Syndication Feed). Until you do that, default pricing and business terms will apply. For more information, in Conductor, click Help, then Syndication.

If you make any changes, remember to click Submit.

Note: Advanced Settings. Most users can ignore this section.  If you previously activated iCopyright for your website but then deleted it, and now wish to reactivate, you will have been told “The publication name is already taken” when attempting to re-register.   Instead of re-registering, simply insert your Publication ID number here and click “Save Configuration” to go live again.  You can find your Publication ID number in Conductor, under Publications / Profile.  The Advanced Settings are also used if you already have a Conductor account for one publication and are adding a second (or third, or fourth) publication to the same Conductor account.  See the FAQs for more details.

I've gone live and reviewed my settings page. What now?
